Cover Design
New Cover Design
The design and the composition of the new cover will be briefly explained here. Chong-Yu Chen, who was the class leader of the doctoral program at the Chinese Literature Department of Chung Cheng University, helped with the six Chinese characters (中正漢學研究) of the journal title; he led the calligraphy classmates to choose from "Song Four Calligraphy Dictionary" composed by Nan-Guang Dong and picked sixth characters respectively from the four Song calligraphy styles, as illustrated below:
"中": Ting-Jian Huang (Manuscripts of the Epitaph of Wang Shi Ershi)
"正": Xiang Tsai (Posts with a Book)
"漢": Fu Mi (Post Wei Tai Poems)
"學": Tu-Bing Song (Chengdu Lau Su Quote) and Shi-Zhi Su (Xi-Tai Sends Xiucai Shao-Zhang Qin)
"研": Fu Rice (Chong-Guo Song Epitaph)
"究": Shi Su’s book mark in the Shi-Dai Qing Bright Collection (You Qin Continued Post)
In order to continue the existing style of the journal’s cover, the cover design, after the revision, remains unchanged since 2007. The design is taken from the imitation pen of Su Zheng from the "Plum Blossom Joy" painted by Bo-Ren Song from the Song Dynasty. Song Boren's plum tree book is China's first woodcut painting book dedicated to depicting the various moods of plum blossoms. Hence, this journal’s new cover is the collection of the six Chinese characters (four Song calligraphy styles) and cover artwork (Su Zheng book) both induced strong spiritual meaning of Song’s "transformation through human cultural forms," in order to create a new academic atmosphere that is a particularly elegant and solemn appearance for this journal, which is already included in “THCI Core.” The Chinese Literature Department of Chung Cheng University department would also like to thank the famous painter and art educator Huang-Yue He, Ph.D., for the final design and composition of the ingenious new cover of this journal.
